Controversial Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s fitness has been questioned by a national selector after his unimpressive showing for Surrey.

A national selector was quoted as saying to IANS that Shoaib hardly proved his fitness in Surrey's match against Hampshire at the Oval.

“He (Shoaib) doesn't seem to be match fit,” said a selector said on anonymity.

“We read newspaper reports about his performance for Surrey and almost all of them said that Shoaib is far from being fit. His figures in the match in which he took just one wicket are also quite unflattering”, he added.

The 33-year-old Shoaib needs to prove his fitness to get back into the national team.
